March - Month of the Rodeo

You know the phrase "March comes in like a lion, out like a lamb"? Well, whoever made that phrase up was obviously not from Houston, as all of March is RODEO season. If anything, it comes in like a lion, and out hungover. Maybe we should consider a rewrite.

This year I joined a rodeo committee. It's a huge deal in Houston. Since our rodeo is all volunteers, it means that all the money that comes in goes towards scholarships for Texas high school kids. It's pretty neat. Another advantage to a committee is you get free entry to any of the shows. My committee was (IMHO) the best because it was so large you got to meet so many people, and super social. We have a tent outside of Reliant and it felt like people were there 24/7. People are very passionate about their rodeo'ing here. Here's a few pics of my rodeo adventures:

BBQ Cook off - it all goes downhill from here.
My 1st rodeo shift! Hangin' with some Brahmin (a type of cow, apparently, with a hump back)
Another rodeo shift, hangin' with some piggies. I look terrified because this thing weighs like 500 pounds and I was terrified he was going to eat me (oh, the irony)

Another shift, hangin' with some tractors.

My committee's appreciation party - it's seriously the best committee there is!
We gave our Chairman a big gun. Because we are in Texas.
After party at our tent, after we made our own Harlem Shake video.
One of my fave new peeps, Alana. When you spend 8 hours alone on a dirt road doing nothing with someone, you either become friends or never want to see them again. Luckily this girl is awesome.
Little seeeeester came in the last Saturday of rodeo to see Luke Bryan. I had never heard of him before but holy moly is he....talented...!

I can't wait for Rodeo season 2014!
